In recent years, some research into lipreading using information technology has been pursued. The researchers have proposed some expression methods for movement of lips and the periphery of the mouth. However, the methods they propose, optical-flow and measurement of minute changes in lip features, yield time-series numeric data about movement of lips and the periphery using utterance video images. Therefore, it is difficult to express movement of lips during utterance. Additionally,when we utter Japanese, there are some rules about the movement of the lips. In this paper, we propose a method by which changes in mouth shape when we utter Japanese are expressed as coding. We establish that mouth shapes of all Japanese articulation can be expressed by coding.
