The material of electrode on one side was a nickel, and on another side that was a platinum. The filling gas in the lamp was neon(40Torr). The cathode voltages of lamp with the electrodes made with different materials were simultaneously measured with high voltage probe connected to digital oscilloscope when the lamp was operated by sine-wave on the same discharge condition. The breakdown and the maintaining voltages in the case of nickel electrode are lower than these of platinum electrode. The measured breakdown voltages were almost constant in frequency region from 0.1 to 100 Hz in neon.
