【Objective】While extensive research exists on throwing mechanics in major sports like baseball and basketball, studies on newer sports such as Mölkky (a Finnish throwing game) remain limited. This study aimed to clarify differences in throwing motions between two distance conditions in Mölkky: 3.5 meters (short) and 6.5 meters (long).【Methods】Video recordings of throws were analyzed, with frames extracted at three key phases: Take-Forward (TF), Take-Back (TB), and Release (REL). Joint positions were automatically detected using MediaPipe, a cross-platform pose estimation tool. Five kinematic parameters were calculated: elbow joint angle, shoulder joint angle, trunk forward tilt angle, hip joint angle, and knee joint angle. These metrics were compared across distance conditions.【Results and Discussion】Trunk forward tilt angle: at REL, the 3.5m condition showed 4.2° greater flexion compared to 6.5m. Elbow joint angle: The 6.5m condition exhibited greater extension by 2.4° at TB and 2.3° at REL. Shoulder joint angle: at TF, the 6.5m condition demonstrated 6.8° more flexion, while at TB, it showed 19.8° greater extension. Knee joint angle: The 6.5m condition displayed increased flexion by 4.5° at TF, 4.6° at TB, and 4.5° at REL. Hip joint angle: No significant differences were observed between distances.【Conclusion】 Longer throwing distances (6.5m) in Mölkky appear to involve greater reliance on arm strength and strategic use of knee flexion for trajectory adjustment, whereas shorter distances (3.5m) prioritize trunk flexion. These findings highlight biomechanical adaptations to distance-specific demands in Mölkky, providing foundational insights for skill development and training methodologies in this emerging sport. |
