The positive column of Ar-Hg discharge system is studied under the following conditions: tube inner diameter 4mm; cold-spot temperature 0-80 ℃; discharge current 10mA; Ar pressure 3-80Torr. We compared measured values of the narrow diameter lamp (d=4mm) with a classical lamp (d=36mm). These values of electric field strength E/P(P: pressure) and electron temperature in narrow diruneter lamp are higher about 2 times than that in classical lamp. The optimum conditions of UV radiation intensity in narrow diameter lamp are wall temperature 60 ℃ and Ar pressure 10Torr.
