To obtain a tool to study the structural characterization as well as the detection of mucin derived from rat colonic mucosa, we developed four monoclonal antibodies (MAbs), designated RCM1303, RCM2135, RCM3601, and RCM3705, against mucin purified from rat colonic mucosae. In ELISA, all of the MAbs reacted with the immunogenic mucin. However, the MAbs were classified into three groups from the differences in their reactivity against each mucin obtained from gastric, jejunum or colonic mucosae of rats. These results suggest that at least three kinds of mucins are produced and secreted in rat colonic mucosa. These MAbs might be useful tools to evaluate functions of these mucins. |
