| 内容記述 | The following pages constitute the second half of 《The Transfiguration of Le Charivan》, the first half having appeared in the last number of the same proceedings. As it was announced, I tried to clarify the main strategies adopted by this satirical journal in the last four months of the year 1835. The September Law imposed the severe press censorship particularly on political lithographs. In spite of its different essays to escape the government control (e.g., putting more importance on the social satire than the political, and using more space and lines than before to treat general problems interesting to the public, etc.), Le Charivari was obliged to insert lithographs only every Sunday. And in one sense, the journal also seems to have shown the new tendency of journalism without any rigid political opinion—that is, the economic cycle of《cheaper price—more readers—more advertisements》, which would become more pronounced six months later by the publication of La Presse, a journal launched by E. de Girardin. | |||||||||
