| 内容記述 | Kyôgen, a traditional Japanese comedic theatre, has more than 650 years of history, whose archetypal roots going much further back. It has maintained a delicate balance with its more serene and ethereal brother theatre art form, Noh. Kyôgen has achieved to express the Japanese sense of humor, reflecting the deep subconscious landscape of the Japanese. Kyôgen's historical sustainability and popularity, then, must derive from its unique comedic way of deviating from the ordinary, of surprising the audience with the unexpected, and of attaining a Kyôgen-style catharsis. The treatise will focus on one major manner of deviation - fear. Of the Kyôgen repertory, close to 300 plays, nearly one fourth of them deal with fear in some form. The negativity of fear, contradictorily, functions as a powerful theatrical means that makes Kyôgen successful. Theatrical climaxes are brought about by how such negativity is surmounted, by Kyôgen's clever prescriptions. | |||||||||
