| 内容記述 | Stamping is a significant act in traditional Japanese perfonning arts, as well as in religious practices. It is an act to ward off evil spirits, to mark the threshold between this world and another out-of-the-ordinary world, or simply to accentuate the flow of dancing movement. In this paper, I will first examine various cases of stamping in traditional Japanese performing arts and religious practices. Second, I will point out some significant characteristics that run through various forms of perfonnance. Third, I will discuss how the act of stamping came to be elevated into and refined as a highly sophisticaed and artistic expression. In traditional performing arts of the medieval and pre-modem periods, structural innovations were made to amplify the acoustic effect of stamping. Thus, stamping grew into a special form of expression that is not only effective with power of sorcery but also with refined beauty. | |||||||||
