The purpose of this research is to identify the place of ball in soccer match game video. As a first step, we tested a simple image recognition algorithm that exploited color and shape of balls. First of all, color distribution of balls in color space was investigated. The results showed that these distribution could be approximated with the rectangle in the red and green two dimensions color space that normalized by brightness. After edge detection (by Sobel filter), outline recognition and detection of circles by hough transform were carried out. Although experiment was carried out about 4 kinds of balls, only ball was not able to be extracted. To extract ball precisely, more detailed color information of ball would be necessary. |
